As per GO. M.S No. 78/2002/SC STDD dated 18th December 2002 the Kerala Government have been pleased to accord sanction for setting up a school named Dr. Ambedkar Vidyanikethan CBSE Model Residential School (MRS) at Njaraneeli in Thiruvanananthapuram dis¬trict of Thenoor Village, Kerala state for tribal students. This institution is run by the Government of Kerala under Scheduled Tribes Development Department. The school started functioning from Feb. 21st 2003.

Presently the work of the entire school building block compris¬ing of the Primary block, Secondary Block, Senior Secondary Block, Staff Quarters, Girls and Boys Hostel. The shcool is constructed in the Depertment land of 10 acres at Njaraneeli in Peringammala Panchayat of Nedumangadu Taluk in Thiruvananthapuram District.

As per GO (MS) No: 15/05/SCSTDD dated 06/04/2005 the Kerala State Government have been pleased to order that the MRS with CBSE at Njaraneeli in Thiruvananathapuram district will be under the administra¬tive control of Kerala State SC/ST Residential Education Society which is registered under the Travancore-Cochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Act No. XII of 1955 Serial No: T6663/95 of year 1995. Accordingly the school managing committee is as per the Kerala State SC/ST Resi¬dential Education society byelaws. The Management of the society vests with Governing body constituting of Ex-officio members and nominated members, 13 in numbers. The meeting once in six months. The district collector is the Chairman of the committee. The Executive Committee meets once in two months. The power of taking decisions regarding the day to day functioning of the school vests with the Executive Committee.

The School started with 1st standard onwards and presently this academic session includes Senior Secondary. The Principal and teaching staff of the school pupil ratio is 1:40. As per the approved norms the sanctioned strength of 40 students for each class is to be filled with 32 tribal students 4 Scheduled Caste students and 4 students from other categories. The school is a residential school with free boarding, food and the entire expenditure towards education of the students borne out by the government. Monthly health checkup of the students is carried out by the mobile health check up of unit of the scheduled Tribes Development Department.

There is a manager in the rank of Deputy Director posted in this school. The non teaching staffs of this school constitute regular departmental staff. The academic matters of the Model Residential School will be administrated by the Schedules Tribes Development Department by observing the formalities of CBSE New Delhi.
